MORE THAN DEEDS

whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
Colossians 3:17

More time has been spent applying this verse to our deeds rather than our words. "How would Jesus be an insurance salesman? How would Jesus be a husband? How can I be Jesus when I go pick up my dry cleaning?" We are so used to thinking of our faith in terms of 'doing' that we have lost sight of the power of our speech. "How did Jesus speak? How did Jesus address problems?" These are the real issues.

Christianity is called the great confession, but most Christians who are defeated in life are defeated because they believe and confess the wrong things. They speak the words of the enemy. Proverbs 6:1-2 says, "Thou are snared with the words of thy mouth.
"
This is a quote from a little booklet on the power of words by Charles Capps.

How many times don't I get what I pray for because I am living out the prophetic nature of my pessimistic words. All I do in prayer is state the problem. Jesus never did that. He spoke scripture, spoke faith, and spoke His Father's words.

Am I in financial straights? I should find God's promises about the power of His provision and make them my language. Am I bound up in hopelessness? I should be speaking God's words about His mighty power to make mountains into roads. Do I need a comforter? Speak scriptures out loud that unveil His role as a shepherd, a comforter of His people, and my heart will open up to His presence. Do I believe that my sins have barred me from divine forgiveness? I must speak His promise of forgiveness over myself until I begin to believe it and walk in joy.

My Christian life began with confession. I made Christ my Savior, personally, then publicly. My Christian life is also shaped by confession. What I say, daily, reveals who I believe, God or Satan. Hopeless talk is for children of the devil, not children of God. What is the reward for speaking the language of faith? I can move mountains.

Jesus, you spoke to the wind, the fig tree, the demons - and all with words of faith. And, they obeyed you. You promised that I would do works greater than these if I walk in your footsteps. I want my speech to sound like yours.
Amen
