[revival-fire] Learning from Todd Bentley about surviving Media Slams

******* REVIVAL FIRE!!! *******

The recent ABC Nightline News slam featuring Todd Bentley (July 9, 2008) reveals something that politicians and preachers around the world have learned the hard way – the media is not your friend. As a former journalist I know how hard we didn't work to remain objective and present both sides to any story. We were after glory and would snatch it from any hand we could in order to get the best story or byline or notoriety. The anti-religious bias in the secular media rears its ugly head like a snake and hisses whenever opportunity comes along. And Todd Bentley was their opportunity.

Congrats to Todd who has now survived the worst slam the media can throw against a preacher! You actually handled the interview really well. We're proud of you! Your face still revealed the glory of the Lord. You maintained your composure & you spoke very, very well. And your previous interview with Geraldo was superb. You kept the focus on what you wanted to get across to the media rather than let the media run you in circles.

A good media adviser should have saved Todd the trouble of doing that interview and advised against it to begin with. Or at the very least, anticipated the questions – particularly about medical documentation regarding healings. And I know there are some out there. Most people cannot be bothered to send in medical reports and most MDs don't want their names known due to liability issues. A doctor would rather say a person's cancer went into sudden remission rather than claim a miracle of healing has taken place. Obtaining medical documentation of healings is very, very difficult. A good media advisor could have helped you respond with that. Or perhaps, that simply got edited out of the interview. Well, well, well, imagine that…editing a news program to remove anything that could be supportive. So much for objectivity and unbiased reporting.

For all of you aspiring revivalists out there, take note. I've been a big advocate of urging financial integrity and substantiating healing claims by requesting documentation of healings. Having both finances and miracles documented is a real necessity in today's media-driven, anti-Christian world.  Having both financial documentation and healing documentation at hand would help revivalists avoid what Todd Bentley experienced at the hands of secular media. I know it must be really difficult to maintain both records when revivals are heating up and the crowds are pressing in. Todd's recent media interviews, however, drive home the point that the world operates by sight – not by faith. And if we want to win some over from the world you will win some by providing what they want to see –the documentation. However, even documentation will not impress the masses. A revelation of the glory and love and demonstrations of the power of God, will, in the end, win more people to Jesus than a few pieces of paper.

It is not that easy for a patient to obtain their own medical records much less request a statement from a physician that might be made public. In this era of managed care, in fact, it would be a miracle in itself for a doctor to comply. But try! Even Jesus told the newly healed lepers to show themselves to the priests so that they could give them a clean bill of health….i.e., document the healing. I know that some healing revivalist like Mahesh Chavda solicit and obtain medical documentation of healings. Bill Johnson, however, doesn't solicit healing documentation and articulates his reasons for this very well (Todd take note of the way Bill articulates his stance about documentation & know that a good media advisor would have prepped you with some of these great responses for the media.). Both secular networks and Christian media (like CBN), however, are increasingly pressured to get the facts straight and documentation is the way to go in this environment. It is only the God.tv crowd and Sid Roth-type media and private print and broadcast who are only interested in presenting a one-sided focus on Charismatic expressions of ministry.

So how could God have received more glory from this interview Todd did with Nightline? Media interviews like the Nightline News, should be used to educate the public. Drawing the attention of the interview to the key questions at stake could have focused attention on the Lord and deflected it from Todd. Even still, Todd did a great job of answering the questions given the time limitations and the editing process. Better yet, Todd kept his cool under hostile fire. Anyone who ends up on the defensive needs to be able to regroup and steer the interviewer back onto what the interviewee wants to say to the audience. It takes practice and skill to launch a great interview. Some interviewers get mad and frustrated – but better the media rep loosing his cool on camera rather than the one being interviewed. First one to loose composure loses!

Not only have I been a journalist, I worked for a government agency in public affairs and had some training on how to handle hostile interview situations prior to being in the hot seat. Try working for FEMA in Baton Rouge and New Orleans right after Hurricane Katrina & fielding interviews from international television and print reporters as a FEMA spokesperson and Nightline looks pretty tame! I learned more by actually facing the fearsome media pack than I did in a classroom.

So rock on Todd! You're a seasoned media-warfare veteran now! You did a great job on a tough & touchy interview. Don't be discouraged. This too will pass. And God will gain the greater glory in the days to come.

[revival-fire] Tomorrow, Sunday, 6 PM, Chico, CA - for SUCH A TIME AS THIS

******* REVIVAL FIRE!!! *******

I humbly lay this request at your feet:

Tom Hardiman, who currently pastors more than 400 ministers worldwide, has come from North Carolina for such a time as this.  He strategically goes to places where the Lord sends him and he has been sent to Chico with a word for Northern California (from Fresno to the Oregon border).

I ask you to seek the Lord if you should come and be a part of this.  It is at The Prayer House, 3851 Morrow Lane, #7, Chico, CA  95928  at 6:00 pm. There will be intense worship, a powerful word and a mighty move of the Holy Spirit.  I feel this is very significant for our region.

If you feel you should come, I believe you will be taking back something for you, your family, your church, your city, your county and your region.

May the Lord be quick to answer you,

Bandi Maxwell

[revival-fire] Avoiding a Charismatic Civil War - by Charisma Magazine

******* REVIVAL FIRE!!! *******
I saw this article while surfing the net, and found it very good advice to keep peace in the church. It may be a good article to share with friends and is calming for those of us that are gray/blue (read article).

I also just finished an EXCELLENT book that deals with manisfestations of revivals, How to know them by their fruit (more fruit than you think or already know), pastoring the prophetic (if you have a prophetic gift/office and have been discouraged by it, this will bring you comfort ), and Empowered for Missions and Mercy (some major fruits).  It's called "Welcoming a Visitation of the Holy Spirit by Wesley Campbell"  copyright 1996, published by Charisma House (charismahouse.com) it also describes how his wife Stacey Campbell (the lady that shakes her head alot) received her prophetic annointing/gift, and the leadings up to the Toronto revival.  It was quite interesting also that I just got back from a vacation in Oshkosh, WI and attended a  community church there (AG actually) and they had a guest speaker from FreshFire Ministries . . . he was an evangelist, bringing the Word and baptism of Holy Spirit to the Midwest!  It was neat to see the fruit of evangelism and baptism in fire that is associated with the ministries that are partaking in the revival, first-hand, unexpectedly (or should I say by devine appointment). p.s. from where I sat it looked like everyone in the church that asked for the baptism in fire that day got it!  God Bless, Laura

Can We Avoid a Charismatic Civil War?
Some leaders say the controversial Lakeland Revival is forcing us to choose sides. But I don't believe God wants to split our movement.
It's been more than 10 years since charismatic prophet Rick Joyner predicted in his popular book The Final Quest that believers would experience a Civil War in the church. Joyner's book, based on a series of visions he says God showed him, describes in graphic detail a turbulent conflict that redefines Christianity as we know it.

Other charismatic leaders have echoed this theme since Joyner's book was published in 1996. They have predicted that our movement will be divided between "Blues" (those who constantly live in the supernatural realm of dreams, visions and miracles) and "Grays" (those who rely more on their intellect), and that the Blues will win and usher in true revival as champions of the Holy Spirit's power.

Even in early 2008, before the Lakeland Revival erupted in Florida in April, some charismatic prophets were declaring that a great rift would divide those who believe in "the glory realm" and those who have a more conservative, left-brained approach to their faith. When God TV began its nightly broadcasts of evangelist Todd Bentley's healing meetings in Lakeland, the Civil War prophecies reappeared overnight on hundreds of blogs and e-mail blasts.
"Jesus prayed that we would be one. There is no record of Him praying that we would split over doctrine."
I'll admit I was not paying too much attention to these Civil War predictions 10 years ago. But I was jolted into reality in May after I wrote an online column in which I raised honest questions about some of Bentley's teachings and techniques. Even though I celebrated his passion and zeal, and praised God for the healings that were reported in Lakeland, I was immediately branded a revival critic and banished to the Gray camp.

I became the bad guy because, by asking questions, I was "relying on my intellect." To those in the Blue camp, my skepticism made me an enemy of the Holy Spirit and all things supernatural—even though I believe that all the supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit are for today!

I tried to laugh this off at first. Surely, I imagined, my Christian brothers and sisters do not really think it is wrong for a Spirit-filled believer to test the spirits (which we are instructed to do in 1 John 4:1), discern truth (see 2 Pet. 3:17) or evaluate prophecies and angelic encounters (see 1 Cor. 14:29, Gal. 1:6-8).

But now I realize that some people really want a war. They want the charismatic movement to split right down the middle. They imply that all those who do not embrace 100 percent of the current movement in Lakeland are "old wineskins" that cannot be used by God in the coming revival.

I can't even describe how much this hurts because I love people on both sides of this conflict. I love the Blues and the Grays, along with every other color in the body of Christ. I refuse to believe that God is trying to split us. Division is the devil's work.

I want to plead with everyone in our movement to reconsider the whole Civil War scenario. Instead of rattling sabers and stockpiling gunpowder, maybe we need to take steps in the opposite direction:

1. Let's accept one another. The apostle Paul rebuked the Corinthians because they exalted certain gifts above others. He reminded them that every member of the body of Christ plays an important role, and that no individual part—whether eye, hand or foot—functions on its own. He rebuked this elitist attitude "so that there may be no division in the body" (1 Cor. 12:25, NASB).

Most of us already acknowledge the importance of supernatural gifts of healing, prophecy, tongues and other demonstrations of God's power. But in our zeal to recover these gifts, let's not isolate those whose primary functions may be mercy, giving to the poor, teaching or intercession. We should cherish every spiritual gift—not just the sensational or the exotic.

2. Let's admonish one another. Christians have not always been the best models of conflict resolution. When tension gets high we either avoid it (usually by saying nothing and hoping the problems go away) or we overreact (by childishly picking up our marbles and playing somewhere else). But the Bible tells us to work things out in eyeball-to-eyeball confrontation.

In the case of Lakeland, there are some doctrines and methods that have come under intense scrutiny. Heresy hunters are having a field day as they toss their grenades and label everything in Lakeland demonic. But because I embrace Todd Bentley as my brother in Christ, I must take a higher road even if I don't agree with his prayer methods or his claims regarding angels. Anything I say, even if it is corrective, must be said in love (see Eph. 4:15).

Thankfully a group of leaders from various charismatic camps (both "Blues" and "Grays"!) are discussing the contentious issues surrounding Lakeland—and biblical confrontation is occurring. I trust this process will result in correction where it's needed, apologies when necessary and more humility on all sides of the debate.

3. Let's pray for one another (see James 5:16). Jesus prayed that we would be one. There is no record of Him praying that we would split over doctrine. So why in the world would any of us hope for a Civil War?

Please pray for Bentley—and for the leaders who are speaking into his life during this season. And pray that the church will not only experience genuine spiritual revival but also true unity. Let's work out our differences, support one another'sministries and focus all our efforts on one common goal: To tell a lost world about the love of Jesus.

[revival-fire] Shekie- Boom Bah BAM in Galt

******* REVIVAL FIRE!!! *******
Friday night was off the Hook the best meeting yet. The testimonies are coming in now from all the prayers and meetings. We still are seeing great crowds and people are coming from all over. We had an anointing service last night That for a lack of better words was WILD!!
We just began calling out city's and had the people from that city come forward and lock arms and we prayer FIRE over that city, take it back to their church's.
At the same time we were holding meeting here in Galt one of the Leaders of this outpouring was holding meetings in Turlock (Westside Ministry's) and almost the same thing was happening there. We are believing that the whole valley will be on fire with this outpouring.
I want to share a few testimonies with you

1) We had a night where we prayed over pray cloths (Acts 19) a person took home the cloth and gave it to a friend that was suffering from Kidney stones, that person put the cloth into their back pocket for the day. The next morning they had a doctors appointment and the Doctor could not find the stones!!!!

2) Some young men left the meeting one night (Monday) found a man in a wheel chair at Java City in Stockton ask if they could pray for him  "sure " he said. They prayed and the man began having feeling in his legs. The man was so touched that he came the next night to the meeting, we prayer again and he STOOD UP  OUT OF HIS CHAIR, he was paralyzed from the waist down. He is not yet able to walk But he is beginning to have feeling in his legs (Come on)

3) Last night a couple showed up not really sure if they believed in God but someone had given them a flyer and told them what God was doing in Galt. So they came ( from Manteca) because the man has tumors in his chest and head from Agent Orange in Viet Nam. We honored him as a vet and prayed for him, we gave him a prayer cloth. God touched him powerfully will you pray with us that he will be totally healed his name in Frank.

We are extending the meetings into next week Monday thru Friday at 7:00pm. Tuesday we will have Wendall McGowen with us and if you know Wendall it will be awesome. We are working on a new web site that should be up soon, with a little help from our friend.

[revival-fire] Fwd: WHAT IS REVIVAL?

******* REVIVAL FIRE!!! *******
Hi from Oklahoma City:

I am going to quote Steve Gray's definition of revival, I found on his blog. Wow. This might seem flippant or way too simple for some, yet I think he hit at the essence of revival that we are looking for (however shockingly). What he describes is something that actually happened to him, so to speak (it doesn't have to always be a "powerball" or a "fireball"). God zapped him in one Sunday night in 1996 (at about 6:07 pm, was it?), and he has been a different person since. In my early days of ministry (a campus minister guy--wild eyed and mystified), we believed this. So simple. So great. Here is the quote:

So, shouldn't revival be defined by someone who has actually, definitely, no doubt about it been revived?
What would Paul of the Bible say revival is? How would he say it happens. Wouldn't his description of revival be the one he told three times in the book of Acts. "I was walking along and suddenly a power ball from heaven struck me and I have been a different person ever since." It makes sense to me.

YES!

Revival is about the presence of God doing what God wants to do with people. Hunger, openness. Going after Him with all our hearts.

Some of you all on Revival Fire are on the All Nations verse by verse book by book email Bible study list. If you are not, just get on by emailing DonKeesee@aol.com. It has really been a great thing studying the Bible this way from a Spirit-filled, revivalistic perspective.

[revival-fire] Galt on Fire 2

******* REVIVAL FIRE!!! *******

GOD IS MOVING IN GALT!!
The below posting was put out last night by Pastor Dave Ross.

God is doing uncommon things in that church right now and
Grace & I bless it.  This must be a new day because this is the
first time we have ever promoted another meeting in the same
region and at the same time we are doing meetings! Smile!

It must be real outpouring time! Amen?
Times like this are not about our individual churches but
about the Kingdom of God!!

God will be in Galt and Turlock this weekend!!
Somebody shout amen, and say thank you Jesus for
your mighty outpouring in California!!!
God bless you!
Henry & Grace

For Galt the info is below, for Turlock click here.

Thursday night Galt is burning with the Glory of God. Our Town has been set on fire, tonight a group of students went out in the streets before the meeting and ministered on the streets of Galt. Again people are coming from all over the region hungry for more of God. I just don't have word to tell what is happing here, I will say this I am blown away.
We believe that Friday is going to be big you can feel it in the air as you drive into the city. Friday will be an anointing meeting we will pray for everyone who wants prayer.
We are extending the meeting into next week, Wendal McGowan from Redding will be here on Tuesday night. So "Come and Get Some" take it back to your city and your church---- just give it away.
We are working on Saturdays for training and SOZO classes to release people into the streets. The dates will be announced.

There will be no Galt meeting this Saturday p.m.
Tonights meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Blessing

[revival-fire] The Lord Will Fight For You

******* REVIVAL FIRE!!! *******

ALL You Precious People Of God,
I want to thank all of you for your prayers. Even though it is still very smokey here in Dutch Flat, we have heard favorable things about the fire. It did breach the ridge that we were very worried for, but in an act of God the fire fighters were able to contain it back and subdue it. And even though it is very hot here also, there has been a moisture in the air up here that has been amazing. Some are saying that the fire is creating its own atmosphere, but I know it is God acting on the prayers of the saints (that would be you). I ask you to please keep praying for the people fighting these fires. These are someone's sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters and friends out there giving their best to get these fires under control. I love you all and am so grateful for all the prayers and support.
                                        GOD BLESS YOU BIG TIME,
                                               Lynn Salmoria
