For a President Who Takes God's Perspective on Justice and Righteousness

For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery and iniquity. In my faithfulness I will reward them and make an everlasting covenant with them.—Isaiah 61:8

Holy Lord God, Your judgments are perfect and all Your ways are true.  You love justice and You exercise mercy, even when we do not deserve them.  You made provision to cleanse our world from sin, and You desire that we are holy and pure in You.

As I pray for this year's elections, I pray that You will give us a president who will take Your view of justice and will act justly, implementing justice in ways that please and honor You.  Lord, I pray that the injustices inherent in our government will be righted in Your time and in Your will.  In Jesus' righteous name, Amen.

For a President who will Receive Their Vision for the Nation from God

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. –Prov. 29:18 

Awesome God, You see all and You know all!  You rule over history and time yet you are neither bound nor governed by them.  I praise You because You are sovereign and You know both the beginning and the end of history—they are Yours! 

Today I lift up the candidates for the Office of the President asking that they will seek Your will as they lead.  Lord, may they receive their plans, visions and initiatives from You, in accord with Your laws and principles.  O Lord I ask that You bring joy and blessing to our country through the godly leaders who are elected this year. Amen.

For a President Who Will Surround Himself with Godly, Wise Counsel

For lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisers make victory sure. Proverbs 11:14

Mighty God, all praise to You today for Your goodness, Your might and Your supreme wisdom.  Thank You for choosing to live in us through Jesus Christ.  Thank You for making us one in You. 

Today, I pray for the candidates running for office, thanking You that You have surrounded each with advisers who consult with them on matters of great importance.  O God, may the candidates and those who advise them be schooled in the habit of consulting with You on all things.  Let them turn to You at a moment's notice to ask for wisdom and understanding as they

For a President Who Desires to Do God's Will
Teach me to do your will, for You are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. Ps. 143:10

O Holy God, Your will is Sovereign and all creation is subject to Your will in obedience and love.  You lead those who love You in the way they should go, and You promise to guide us through all circumstances, whether easy or difficult.

O Lord, today I ask You to look on the candidates running for office this year, from the presidency to local office, and put in their hearts a desire to honor You and to faithfully know and do Your will.  Let them seek You earnestly in prayer, with longing to hear from You every day and in every decision.  Thank You for your willingness to lead us in every circumstance.  In Jesus' name, Amen.

For a President who will Walk in the Fear of God, Turning Their Backs on Evil
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.—Proverbs 3:7

O Majestic God, Your power and might are beyond the reach of my imagination.  You are to be feared for Your majesty and glory.  Today I am in awe of You and Your supremacy over everything. 

Lord, as I seek to have a proper fear and reverence of You in my life, grant that those running for office will grow in their understanding of You and will come to reverence and fear You as You deserve.  Show each one that they can trust in You, and indeed they will fare far better if they do trust in You rather than relying on their own wisdom.  May they hunger for You and in so doing, turn from evil.  In Jesus' name, Amen.
