Hi Matt, I see both sides of the fence here. I'm with you on being grieved over "my" part when I hear of some disaster. asking myself, did you pray enough, care enough, do enough, etc. I weep over the people, and over the state of the complacent church still running around wanting to get "more" of God. Were so full now, the entire world should be healed and saved.
On the other hand, Amos still applies, that God does nothing till He first reveals it to his servants, the Prophets. (His word is forever established in the Heavens). We have Aggabus giving a "doom and gloom" kinda word in Acts telling the people a famine was coming, and to start gathering and sending supplies to Jerusalem. And they did. This is what I get out of "these" words all put together. The Lord HAS given the people time to repent, He still is. He has sent multitudes of ministries to these areas, some of which you know and are a part of. I have been seeing and hearing a major call to the bay area for the last 2 years, and the people (Christians) went. They are still there. We, you and I, are here in Sacramento, praying, doing in our area. We can't all be in San Francisco, nor are we all called to be there. But we are called to pray and intercede and repent!
Why when more than one "someone" gets a word of warning for an area or nation, do we start attacking the word, instead of taking heed, getting ready in what ever ways each person or groups can to "help" these people, as Candi MacAlpine said in her email. I'm not saying just to sit back and wait for the disaster to hit, NO! I'm saying we are getting one more chance to intercede and pray for these people, this State, this nation! Just because so many "prophets" and ministers missed it on the Y2K, that doesn't mean we flush every word of warning we hear now. A lot of people learned a lesson from those words, and believe it was a forewarning of prayer and preparation for what's to come, being ready to help.
So in closing, I'm adding what I sent to a few of my friends at 5 a.m. this morning, ok? Sorry this is a bit wordy, but sometimes it has to be. Below is what I got last night...all night! Danna Newton at dbn@comcast.net :
OK, my two cents, or five. I haven't been able to sleep at all tonight (Friday). Not so unusual to some who know me, but an urgency made me cry out as to "what", "who", Lord??? I knew I was to pray. So I covered all of California, and it's leaders. Prayed for mercy to kiss judgment, saying to the Lord, YOU SAID "Mercy triumphs over Judgment"! Lord, wake up the Body, the church, to pray! Bring justice and morality back to this nation. Let us be "One nation under God" again. This nation you created , formed and founded. Remember the prayers and promises of our forefathers in this land Lord. I kept praying all that came to me, then decided to get out of bed and check my email, only to find this!
My brother lives in L.A. and when the 5.? hit last week, I told my Mother, "That's not it, there's another one coming". I didn't mean to speak it, the words just fell out of my mouth.
So, let's do continue to pray, pray and pray. I believe what Wendy Moen said, I'm in agreement with what she shared, truth. However, the Lord does bring warnings for a reason.

******* REVIVAL FIRE!!! *******
This may be too much for all of us at this moment – a downpour of spiritual perceptions. Yet, for those willing, here is another nugget from the front lines.
When God spoke to Abraham about Sodom and Gomorrah, He said that the cries of the unrighteous have outweighed the cries of the righteous. What would have happen if the righteous would have invaded the city and stood on the promise of God?
What would happen if instead of just speaking damnation over a city, we invade the city and stand on the promises of God and allow the cries of the righteous to overwhelm the cries of the unrighteous.
When one declares that an act of nature is the judgment of God, who should be held accountable? The unrighteous? It is in the nature of sinners to sin.
Or the Righteous, who are supposed to SHINE?
Jesus said that if the salt becomes looses its saltiness then it will be thrown out and trampled under the foot of man.
Who is supposed to be salty? The Church – you and I!
It is us who are held accountable.
When I see the judgment of God I am grieved, I seek the heart of God and ask, where have I missed it.
Oh Christians, there is a world out there waiting to encounter the God that we so often take for granted.
Let this move us to see the heart of God and hear again the words of JESUS – GO! Go into all the world and preach the GOOD news!
That we would be so impacted that we MOVE!
Blessings
And loving the fact that God is stirring us…….I pray that He stirs us enough to get out of our comfort zones.
In Christ
